Traditional medicine systems are part of India’s culture. Today the whole world has become increasingly interested in Indian ayurveda and other traditional health care systems. Barleria is an important medicinal plant which is commonly known as vajradanti and used by tribal people for the treatment of toothache, cough, fever, anemia, rheumatism, piles and as an antidote for snake-bites. This plant is also used in ayurveda, siddha, allopathy and folklore systems of medicines. We found three species of Barleria viz. Barleria prionitis Linn, B. strigosa willd and B. cristeta Linn growing wildly in takhaji, hinglaj garh and gandhi sagar wild life sanctuary of mandsaur district of madhya pradesh. A variety with white flowered was found only in takhaji growing wildly. It was reported by prain and cooke as a verity of B. cristeta var. dichotoma. This verity was not reported earlier as growing wildly. We reported all varieties of Barleria first time in mandsaur district in wild condition. Barleria prionitis Linn and B. strigosa willd was included in the list of threatened medicinal plants.
